We recommend starting the school selection process at least 18 to 24 months before your target entry year. For Grade 6 entry, that means beginning in Grade 4 or early Grade 5. For Grade 9 entry, Grade 7 gives families the most time. This allows room to research schools, attend open houses, schedule campus visits, and refine the list before applications open. Families who start late often apply to schools they have never visited, and that shows in the application.
For most families, we recommend applying to between 6 and 10 schools. This is a balanced mix of reach, match, and likely options. The right number depends on your child’s entry point, their profile, and the schools they are genuinely excited about. We never pad a list to improve the odds on paper. Every school on the list should be one your family would be genuinely happy to attend.
